When starting the research process to find your plastic surgeon, it’s not unusual to search “best plastic surgeons near me” or “top plastic surgeons in Illinois.” But what qualifies someone to be the “best?”
To be perfectly honest, it all comes down to personal preference. It’s really important to look at what truly matters for you as the patient. What are your non-negotiables? Below are some things to consider.
Qualifications
Is the doctor you are researching board certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery? This is the only board for plastic surgery that is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Many board certified plastic surgeons have their qualifications readily available on their website.
Education
Does it matter to you where your potential surgeon earned their degree?
Experience
Is it important to you to know how much experience someone has in the procedures you most desire?
Bedside Manner
Does the plastic surgeon make you comfortable? Do you feel that you can trust them?
Support Staff
Even if the surgeon seems like a great fit, is the staff friendly and supportive? Sometimes this can make a big difference in patient experience.
Before and After Gallery
Do you want to be able to see before and after photos from that specific surgeon available on the website?
Location
Is proximity to where you live an important factor or is traveling not an issue?
Price
Is cost the determining factor for you?
Surgical Facility
Where is the surgery taking place? Do you have health concerns that might necessitate an accredited hospital?
Reviews
Do you know someone personally who has had the same or a similar procedure done by that plastic surgeon? If so, what was their experience? Alternatively, take a look at Google, Facebook, RealSelf, and Vitals to see what other patients have had to say.
We will never say that we are “the best” because each patient has their own opinion on what is important. It is up to the individual patient to make that decision for themselves.
