The newest product offered at The Spa at MidAmerica Plastic Surgery, located just outside of St. Louis, MO in Glen Carbon, IL, is Upneeq. Upneeq is a prescribed eyedrop for acquired ptosis, more commonly known as low-lying lids. The level of severity of acquired ptosis varies, from mild to severe. Patients of each stage can benefit from the aesthetic treatment of Upneeq, but moderate to severe candidates will notice the functional importance of the product. Ptosis can cause visual impairment, affecting your capability to read, drive, and do other day-to-day activities. Upneeq is an easy and effective product for a condition that many patients don’t realize can be treated without surgery.
Upneeq works by stimulating the Müller’s muscle in the eyelid, making it contract and stay lifted. Not only does the lid stay lifted, but the drops brighten and hydrate the eyes. This makes the eyes look more energized and awake. Many people may not realize that their acquired ptosis is even a condition. If they do, they may think this is something that only happens with age. Contrary to this belief, low-lying lids can affect adults of all ages, not just those over the age of 50.
Upneeq is packaged in single-use vials and should be used once daily. Patients who wear contact lenses should apply the drops and wait 15 minutes before putting contacts in. After putting the drops in, discard the vial and do not save any of the unused product. Results can be noticed about 20 minutes after application, although some patients report that they notice it even sooner.
