Lip filler has quickly become one of our top requested procedures at The Spa at MidAmerica. We are going to break down the process and answer the top FAQs we hear regarding this amazing procedure. *Lips pictured by Ashley, FNP-BC
What is lip filler?
Lip filler is an injection created to add immediate volume to the lips. It is made up of hyaluronic acid (H.A.), which is something that your body already contains and is proven to be safe when injected properly. H.A. is nourishing by nature, which adds a hydrated look. However, filler will not necessarily solve chapped lips.
How long does lip filler last?
As we mentioned above, H.A. is something your body already contains, meaning it will eventually absorb the filler. Filler longevity varies from 6-12+ months and is dependent on where it is placed in the face/body. We typically see lip filler last approximately 6 months.
Does lip filler hurt?
We take a few different precautions to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. Our providers use a topical prescription lidocaine gel to numb the area for 10-15 minutes prior. The fillers also contain lidocaine, making the procedure more comfortable as your treatment continues. We also use the fun tool pictured below! It vibrates and will divert your attention away from where the needle is being placed.
How long does lip filler swelling last?
Swelling will typically occur immediately and lasts 2-3 days but can vary from person to person. Minor bruising is always a risk because of the sensitivity in the area. If you have not had lip filler before, we suggest you do not return to work or have a big date night planned the same day.
This is not an “I have an event this weekend I have to look good for” treatment. You need to make sure you give yourself time for a minor recovery following lip augmentation. Give yourself approximately 3 weeks before an event to be extra safe.
Hack: If you happen to have slight bruising, pick out a nice lipstick and *voila*…what bruise?
What is a lip flip?
A lip flip is when our providers inject Botox or Dysport above your top lip, which will allow more of the pink of your lip to show. It is an excellent treatment for men and women who suffer from a gummy smile or an extremely thin top lip.
How much does lip filler cost?
Our filler is sold by the syringe starting at $650. We typically inject one syringe per lip treatment.
