How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra Aesthetic works gradually over time for a more youthful-looking appearance. We use Sculptra Aesthetic at our Glen Carbon, IL, med spa to help stimulate the skin’s natural collagen production to help restore its inner structure and increase lost facial volume. It works with your body within the deep dermis to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume.

Am I a good candidate for Sculptra?

If you are unhappy with the loss of volume in your smile lines, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles, Sculptra is a great option for you. Since results are gradual and subtle, it is not for those who are looking for immediate results.

What to Expect

After a consultation with Dr. Diederich, a board-certified plastic surgeon, or one of our nurse practitioner injectors, the Sculptra treatment occurs in our office near Maryville.

To reduce any common swelling within 24 hours of receiving Sculptra, you should ice for a few minutes at a time. For five days following the treatment, it is recommended you massage the areas treated for 5 minutes, 5 times a day. Until redness and swelling go away, excessive sunlight and UV lamp exposure should be avoided.

Sculptra vs. Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® are liquid or gel substances, such as hyaluronic acid or bovine or porcine collagen, that diminish lines by pushing up the dermis space beneath wrinkles and creases. Results appear immediately and can last up to several months.

Sculptra is a collagen stimulator that is used to diminish facial wrinkles by helping to restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin. Results appear gradually over the treatment regime (typically three treatments over the course of three to four months) and can last up to two years.

As a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra Aesthetic is different. It works with your body within the deep dermis, rather than topically, to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. As the Sculptra Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin to gradually help restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.
