Your first lip filler appointment can be an exciting and nerve-wracking experience. In a world where lip filler has become a common procedure, it’s ok to still feel those nerves before your injectable appointment. This is why at The Spa at MidAmerica, our providers always start with a brief consultation before your treatment. This consultation allows your injector to understand your goals, make sure that you both are on the same page, and hopefully ease any nerves you may be feeling!

How much is too much lip filler?
Choosing whether or not to go with a full or a half syringe is patient-dependent, but many people may be intimidated by their provider recommending a full syringe. Kylie didn’t get those lips with only one syringe! A full syringe of filler (1 mL) is truly a small amount of filler. For reference, a ketchup packet is about 10 mL! This is something that can be discussed with your provider.
Think About Timing
Before your consultation, there are a few things to consider and ways in which you can prepare for your lip filler appointment. If you have any events coming up, our providers recommend scheduling your filler at least two weeks before to allow the filler to settle, and to avoid any swelling or bruising on your big day.
Plan for Success
On the day of your appointment, make sure to eat beforehand so you don’t feel lightheaded or run the risk of potentially fainting. These things happen, so don’t feel bad about it! For your own comfort, eating beforehand is important. Avoid taking ibuprofen or drinking alcohol for 24 hours before and after to reduce bruising. Bruising is normal and will most likely happen, especially in the delicate area of the lip.
Patients with active lifestyles should plan their workout accordingly, as you should not hit the gym for a minimum of four hours after treatment. Depending on the intensity of your workout, your provider may recommend taking a rest day, but make sure to discuss it with them.
